Default Hood release...

I have an EK and my hood release latch doesn't work anymore. Well technically it works, it does pull back, but it doesn't release the hood. I have to screw around with the hood for a bit (push it down and lift it) before it opens. Is this common for Civics? Anything I can do to fix it?

White Lithium grease in a spray can works very well too. It tends to last a lot longer than silicon does too.
