generic intakes look like, . . . cheap tarnished metal in your engine bay.

take a personal look at an aem or injen and compare it to a generic intake and u'll see that most of ur money goes into the show factor

Make your own intake. Buy a K&N plus piping and joints and your set.

Intakes are intakes, all the pipes are the same, maybe some use more aluminum or whatever, but it's function is the same, however, there is a big difference between a Cold Air Intake (Iceman, AEM) and short ram intakes... Short ram intakes, although draw in more air, probably draw in ENGINE heat, so that's a drawback. CAI's draw in air from outside, could only benefit from cold air. People worry about the water getting in there, I have yet to hear anyone that I know have this problem, and now that AEM make the by-pass valve, water shouldn't even be an issue unless your car is a submarine.

On the subject of the Iceman intake, I was debating between the iceman and AEM CAI's, I've spoken to many professionals and shops and there's pro's and con's of the plastic Iceman vs. other aluminum piped ones... The plastic does not attract heat as much as aluminum, however, Aluminum, although does attract heat, dissipates quickly.

For informational purposes, AEM intakes have a special coating that helps deflect heat (or some crap like that)
