What brand and size of jack do you guys recommend?

When I had put my springs on this summer I bought a cheap 2 ton jack and tried to jack from the front up to put jackstands at the jack points. The jack got as high as it could, and that still wasn't enough to put the jack stands under. It then broke, and hydrolic fluid made a puddle in my FIANCE's parents driveway.

Yeah that's right. I got engaged this weekend! woot!!!

Mere hours of being engaged, and you're already pissing off the in-laws. :chuckles: Congrats on getting engaged and finding a good jacking point all in the same weekend!

interesting so you can't just use any place between the front and rear wheel to jack up the car huh?

with BMWs you can use any place along the side to jack up the car. I thought it was the same for others

Nope, it's a basic flaw with Civics, though a minor one. My winter Jetta is the same way with jacking points as your BMW but the Civic just has a 4 inch spot near each wheel.

I always put my jack stands on the pivot point for the suspension......i dont recomend jacking from the oil pan unless you are trying to raise/support the engine...even w/ a 2x4. That puts a lot more stress on the engine mounts. I only do this when i've needed to undo the moror mounts(timing belt change etc) and i had the rest of the car on jack stands....

Congrats! I got the $50ish one from the auto parts store. Its Team Mechanix and goes from 3" to about 2'. Not the nicest one, but it gets the job done.

A lot of cars are like that not just hondas.

Anyhow, a day late and a dollar short but if you've got a regular hydrolic jack I just slide it under the chasis sub frame area where the lower control arms connect to... then just jack it up place your jack stands at the jack points and your done.

If your car is lowered, a lot of those cheapo jacks won't fit under the car but there are some nice low profile ones that have a low profile steel roller along the front instead of those two steel wheels that the cheap ones have and the actual cradle part is at least 2 inches lower so it slips under cars that are lowered:thumbup:
