I always put my jack stands on the pivot point for the suspension......i dont recomend jacking from the oil pan unless you are trying to raise/support the engine...even w/ a 2x4. That puts a lot more stress on the engine mounts. I only do this when i've needed to undo the moror mounts(timing belt change etc) and i had the rest of the car on jack stands....
