Quite honestly, I think that you would spend less buying a complete swap all together and running than you would trying to build one from scratch with all stock components.
Sensors alone are super expensive.

hmm- interesting fact westcoast- but now that i think about it, oem products are usually more pricey than aftermarket. what about peicing together used and aftermarket peices. like, whatever i couldn't find used i would buy aftermarket? would that turn out a lower cost? or just a cheap engine? last question, where could i find a list of a majority of engine components, i know the basics, but obviously not enough to build one from scratch. where could i read up on major components for building from scratch

I had a basic understanding of how a motor works before I started my build, but I learn by doing. I took that bich apart with a Haynes manual, some plastic baggies and a video camera.
I'd be weary of buying used internal pieces. You really don't know how they were treated or what condition they're really in until you put stress on them. And it begs the question: why would you be removing internals to sell? The only reason that I can see selling my internals was that I bought something better or I broke something and these are the pieces that are left and in decent enough condition to sell...
I'm a very careful buyer so I may be too anal for what you're looking to do.

no no, i agree, thats why i asked if it would just turn out to be a cheap engine, quality wise. i am also one who learns by doing, i'm a very visual learner and i'm also hooked on doing things myself. right now i'm restoring an old kawasaki bike. found it in the trash. turned out that it needed only 70 bucks of parts and the bitch runs like never before. as far as learning all the parts, i'll take a look at that website
