like i was saying do you people who have the iceman, does it sound good when the vtec crossover kicks in? most likely im going to get rid of mine and buy one, used or new i dont care, i just want one until my motor is done w/ the buildup.
mr. bakeoff did have a good point tho, you didn't read right or didn't seem to process the fact that he did say ceramic paint. ceramic paint would dramatically reduce the heat condutivity of the pipe itself. a polished intake tube is worse soley cuz it conducts heat rather well. so sometimes, a CAI and a non CAI polished intake imo, won't make much of a difference, cold or hot air the air will be warmed up passing through so much hot pipe.

iceman is a 'true' CAI imo, BUT bakeoff's idea of a ceramic coated intake tube would do a very good job

yay for ebay

why would you bother in sending it somewhere to get coated, i think that is rediculous, i rather have something made of plastic which doesnt conduct heat than metal which does. just b/c he is cheap doesnt mean he should tell people not to get one.

the guy asked if it was any good on a DX, and any other suggestions, bake-off suggested something else..... ceramic paint you can BUY. and DIY, you can buy the tube and a cheapie filter for $25 on ebay and then buy a bottle of the paint.... not hard and cheap. thats $100 less than any other name brand one.

its ONLY a suggestion, not command.

i get what your saying and where can you buy a CAI of ebay for that little ive seen short air intakes for that much but not cai

but bakeoff gets all pissed off when i made my comment about it aswell. i said for the money i would buy it. if other comments made in the same thread are of his disliking, he gets his panties in a bunch and lashes out on others, so i really dont care for him if he says or not.

no more arguing we're being whores

either way don't swap out your CAI for an iceman
you'll be dissappt only cuz the results aren't any different. on a civic that is.

concept is right, results are minimal

You guys actually think that paint lowers the conductivity? Do you know how thick a coat of paint is? Anyways, Iceman is not just another "pipe". It's a tapered pipe; the intake air velocity speeds up keeping it cooler when it enters the intake manifold. Did I mention it's plastic (polyethylene). Polyethylene has a way lower conductivity than aluminum. If I didn't already have an intake (ARC), I would buy an Iceman over an AEM any day.

The Iceman will get hot, same with the AEM and most any other intake. However, it's due to the outside temperature of the air. A hot day in Las Vegas will make your Iceman or AEM very warm to the touch (hot, but not enough to burn you). Drive 5 hours back at night to San Diego, and the Iceman and AEM will be noticeably cooler than during the day. Anyways, the intake pipe will generally be about the same temperature as the air being ingested.

For sound, I only have experience with 5G Civic EX/Si's (D16Z6 engine). The Iceman is noticeably louder (both as intake only, or intake/header/exhaust) than the AEM. Both have noticeable power spikes that coincide with a louder engine note...the Iceman at 4400rpm, the AEM at 4700rpm.

The AEM lost 1-2hp below 3500rpm, and increased peak hp by about 2hp. The Iceman had no losses, and peak hp was increased by 3hp in both underhood and CAI configurations! However, in CAI, the Iceman has a peak gain of 6hp at 4400rpm (which coincides with the louder engine note).

On paper, the Iceman definitely has the edge, but in real world daily driving, there's really no noticeable difference besides the noise.
