I just cleaned out my Injen, kind of neglected it for almost a year... I guess that's one thing bad about CAI, you can't really see it all the time and you tend to overlook it.

i remember during a hard 1-2 shift in my car, my old short ram came apart internally. There was a metal cap (about an 1.5 inch in diameter) on the inside of the cone, that held the element together. As I did the redline shift, the car was still revving all super high, because the throttle cable was stuck...i was so scared i didnt know wtf happened. luckily it happened down my street, so i took my iintake apart, and found the metal cap lodged in the throttle body butterfly.

if you want a horror story, i just bought my car with a b18b and i was just getting up on it. and in the shift between 3rd and 4th, somehow my engine revs to 9k and one of my distributor wires comes unattached, i dont know which happened first.
