Default My speedoo is going nuts

Ok, I started rebuilding my civic back to the shape it should be in. Today I replaced front rotors and pads, and attached some missing plastic pieces around the car.

Now, I remember there was a problem with a speedoo going crazy especially on cold days. It will just start bouncing up and down, than settle and work normally until it decides to start acting up again.

What causes this problem and what is the solution.

Also, can I replace it with some other cluster but with tach? I know that on neons, all the wiring is already in place and if you swap the clusters RPM gauge will work just fine.
I have a basic 92 civic DX 4dr.

Thanks,
Neven

All 5th gen clusters are plug-n-play so you can put a cluster with a tach in and go - no extra wiring.

As for your speedo problem: if you going to replace the cluster do that first. Then, if the problem is still there, replace the speedo sensor in the tranny.

hih

Sorry what is VSS.. I'm guessing SS means Speed sensor, what is V for?

Is there a difference between models, or Manual vs Automatic, as far as clusters are concerned?

Thanks

Duuuhh h: .

I found one on ebay off an EX, but it's in MPH, and I'm in Canada. It makes me no difference tho since my Audi is american car so it's in MPH as well.

Do you guys have a part # for VSS?

Dude, you can get the cluster and just swap the Speedo out to the new one. h:
Same speedo, same odometer, but now you have a tach.

I have a canadian speedo/full cluster if your speedo ends up being busted.

If you took the cluster apart, there are a few screws on the back that hold in each gauge (tach, speed & gas/temp). I had a similar problem where my speedometer would just quit, and then start back up after awhile. I tried changing the VSS and that didn't work and finally picked up a used cluster at the junkyard with a broken gas gauge. I pulled both clusters apart and mixed and matched pieces. Works pretty good, except my 125K odometer now reads 235k miles. The whole changeover took 20 minutes...

I found out yesterday as I was browsing around ebay for a cluster, and I read that you can swap out the speedoo and the odometer together which is perfect.

Do you want to sell the cluster you have. You can pm-me with your asking price.

Thanks
Neven
