I have a 97 Del Sol S and there's a small red light on the dashboard, upper left, right behind steering wheel next to buttons. It always stays on and I can't for the life of me figure out what it's purpose is. It does imply a car alarm, although my car doesn't have one.

Any ideas?

 

my guess is that someone put it in to make people think they had an alarm, but the only way you're going to know is if you take it out and see where the wires go.

 

Yeah, a lot of mechanics will install one of those for real cheap for customers who don't want to go the whole 9 yards for an alarm. It gives that "alarm" look but at little to no cost. I hold with WrongWD and say trace the wires back. Maybe you do have some traces of an old alarm still leftover..or who knows what!

 

i agree, if you know the person you got the car from, you could give them a call if you dont want to open up your car. its a fairly common thing some people. most theifs dont like to risk it if they think you might have an alarm.
