Default Going to install prothane bushing kit tommarow: any tips

Yea I picked it up at the local store for like 150. I dont think that it was that bad of a price. Every time that I go in there, the guy gives me a deal on something. I dont know why. I think that he just wants to get rid of shit that is has been sitting around for a while. The Box was all dusty. Anyone have any advice

It will take more than a day. Do you have another car you can drive around? If not, I would do it piece by peice over a few weekends. (i.e. do your rear LCAs tomorrow, front LCAs and A arms next week, shifter and endlink bushings the following week, etc.) If you don't need your car for immediate transportation, you could put it up on stands, remove all the suspension, and take the suspension peices in to a shop to have them pressed, come back home and put it all back on. Even with a shop doing the pressing, I'd figure at least two days to completely dissasemble and reassemble your suspension.

And if you don't have access to a press (or a shop with one), get ready to go wild with a dremel :nervous:

This is one of the most time-consuming DIYs... so be prepared. Ask us any specific questions you can come up with.

Just remember that C-clamps are your friends and make sure to use as much of that hard-core grease stuff that (should have) came with the kit. The grease keeps the squeek demons away

If it didn't come with it, try to find a substitute. I don't know of what you could use though. You may be able to order it seperately from energy suspension though...

Just buy a tub of grease from napa... They probably wont supply you with enough grease, and their grease isn't as good as your average autoparts store axle grease. I let them soak in the bucket over night before installing... I don't know how much that helped :dunno: I used valvoline multi-purpose... it was magenta

actually, when I installed the energy master kit on my 'Vette, it came with enough grease and it was the stickiest, nastiest grease I've ever seen. I can't imagine that stuff ever coming off (imagine pine sap mixed with car grease), and my car never squeeked.. But again, that was energy. I don't know what your kit came with.

Oh, and one more thing... recruit friends for help!

I had energy susp too. It just came with a :ghey: little packet. It *might* have been enough, but I like to be thorough. I didn't even check the goop or anything, I just thought it didn't look like enough, so I bought a tub of sloppy red grease :exnbp:

presoak them in WD40 or similar type lubricant over night. Get a bucket, dump the urethane bushings in it, and fill it with WD40.

Lubricant may soften up the poly, and make the bushings slip in easier, but its no substitute for the grease that will ensure the long life of the bushings and keep them quiet. Be sure to grease them up... its vital.

Yea I did the rear this saturday. It was a pain only for one reason. One of the lower control arm bolts broke off. I took me forever to get it out 3 hours. Other than that it was easy
