Well, the reason I asked about the wastegate is because internal ones have been known to accumulate carbon deposits which can force more exhaust through the turbine, and hurt the performance of the wastegate, which leads to the higher boost you mention.
I would start with a careful and close inspection of the wastegate and associated components.
