Not true. Not true at all.

When the NSX was first introduced, Honda built a special factory at Tochigi, next to the Motegi Twin Ring racetrack. It's staffed with their hand-picked best factory workers from around the world. The NSX has been built there, by hand, ever since it was introduced in 1990, and that is still true today.

You can read in this book all about how the NSX is built.

The pre 97 NSX's are not nearly as fast and reliable.
Also not true. Not true at all. (The part about the reliability, anyway.) In fact, the 1991 NSX won an award from J.D. Powers in 1996 for the most reliable car after five years of ownership. Not the most reliable sports car; the most reliable car, period.

However, you are correct when you say that the pre 1997 NSX is not as fast as the '97 and later NSX. That's because they enlarged the engine to 3.2 liters for an extra 20 hp, and they changed to the six-speed manual transmission.
