my shifter is aftermarket, but the part above the pivot is the same height as stock. Effort is increased because of the lower ratio between the length of the part above the pivot and the part below.
Even so, my shifter feels pretty nice. It feels much more solid than the stock shifter w/ rubber bushings, which had a rubbery feeling when the shifter was in any gear. :down:
yeah I know why the effort is increased. most bmw short shifter kits have an optional effort reduction kit as well. but then again most bmws have a pretty long throw. Not as long as a VW (which is like a school bus) but still pretty long.
honda/mazdas have a pretty nice stock shifters.
