yes you will get a check engine light when your VTEC doesn't work.... check your VTEC soleniod and maybe you just have a weak VTEC.. my friend has a 94 accord ex with the 2.2L SOHC VTEC and i can't even notice VTEC in his car, it doesn't feel like it kicks in... but it does.
