MAP = manifold absolute pressure

This is the sensor the ECU uses to determine how much air is going into the motor. It uses the voltage off the MAP sensor and the RPM to determine how much fuel to inject.

As for what's causing the code, *generally* unless you have something unplugged it's time to replace the sensor.
