Gotta be careful with that cam timing, especially if go with an aftermarket cam. Customer I just did a head for just destroyed his block and majorly damaged his head because the valves were clipping each other, broke a valve and sent it through the piston and split the cylinder in two. Skunk2 stage 2 cams and gears and I have the sneaking suspicion they were not set right. Got the head set up on another block now to recreate it and see what happened but with that big Vtec lobe you have to be careful during split overlap that the valves aren't too close to each other.
Another thing to be careful with on some of these bigger cams is oversized valves. Talk to your cam manufacturer before going with oversized valves, as they can catch on each other and cause this same problem. In fact, on Skunk2's page they specifically advise against oversized valves with stage 2 or 3 cams.
