A bad CV joint will ruin the axle shaft. If you let this linger, it could seize and you could have a horrific accident. Get your car up on a lift and inspect it.

Also the slow acceleration may be due to many things: tranny fluid change needed, dirty injectors, dirty air filter, dirty fuel filter, fouled spark plugs, and/or etc.
