There are a couple of options I might be willing to try. I seen people put a decal on the wood, then cover it with a finish (of glue) so that it'll polish and be smooth. ok, found the picture. I'm not sure how much something like this would cost, but it's an option that's available.
This is a blank with a logo inside. Once it's turned down, the logo would be much clearer.

Here's a pen made using a blank like the one above. There are different pen kits, so the pen itself could be different (a click, a twist, a rollerball like this with a twist off cap)
