I would say it's more sway, less jolt because of the lesser amount of fault lines the east coast area has. Therefore, less faults means less seismic wave reflection resulting in sways and longer distance of movement.

Exactly. That's what they said as well. Less fault lines.
We've had some saying earthquakes, though. 1988 I was studying for a final at a donut shop before school. After running outside, the ground I stood on shifted 2 feet from side to side. It was slow and amazingly smooth. Surreal.
