Whoa...and you're a moderator? Whew. Ok I won't flame but I will say this. The speakers in a 00 SI are IDENTICAL to any and allllllllll other coupes 96-00. An SI is nothing special when it comes to audio. Not only does buckman have a 97 ex but yes he's worked in a shop for quite some time. I have been a hobbiest of car audio for over 12 years, worked in the industry for over 4 years and have been building, tuning, tweeking, touching, fondling, and molesting competition cars for over 8 years now. I have a decent background in Car Audio so I do have the knowledge here. Plus, I am Co-Founder of a Civic website and had a 97 civic. So, obviously having the background in car audio and being a civic fanatic, I think I'm MORE than certified in this subject here. Now there's a plastic cup looking thing called a rain guard. It guards the speaker from......yup you guessed it. RAIN!

Now this is very shallow because it's designed to guard the OEM Pioneer speakers. Now very few aftermarket speakers will fit in this therefore you need to cut out the back to make 90+% of the speakers out there fit. Once you remove this panel, you can fit any speaker out there fit. The opening alone is bigger than 6.5". Now if you can find a reason why a company would put a bigger magnet on a speaker than it's mounting diameter, I would LOVE to hear this. So, with that plastic rain guard (explained earlier) gone, you have room to put (drum roll please) bigger speakers! YAY! Now, to fit an oversized 6.5" speaker, you will need to make a small MDF panel to secure it to the door, not to mention give you the depth of the speaker. And as long as you're not using anything bigger than a 1" spacer, the speaker will have enough room to clear the door panel. Now throw a little fibreglass or dynomat on there to help cut down the resonance and you've got a good sounding midrange/bass in your door. Now if THAT confused you, you need to take yourself out back and give yourself the "Old Yeller" treatment. Have a great day.
