If you cut the basket, or remove it altogether, this won't be an issue, depending on what speakers you choose. From the sounds of it, you're just looking for an upgrade, not some sq capable type stuff. That being said, if you stick w/a speaker that is 2-3" deep, the only mod you'll hve to do is either cut the basket or remove it altogether and use a mdf baffle instead. It may sound difficult, but it's very simple.
