Okay I think that you may be look at this the wrong way. There is some plastic that hold your speakers in the door. This is called the rain gaurd, because it's suppost to keep rain off the speaker. See that the factory speaker's cone is made out of paper this is needed. But when you upgrade your speakers you don't have to worry about that, because most of the speaker out ther should have a water proof cone.
I know that Crutchfield said that they wouldn't fit, but I'll bet ya my car they will fit.

I just installed a set of Focal 130K into the door of a 5th Gen Hatch. Well always we had to cut the rain gaurd but after that everything fit's fine. Those speakers are around 3" deep, so don't sweet it go buy the speaker that you want knowing they are going to fit.
This is not true. You can mount any speaker that is a 6.5" or smaller in the opening, provided it is not deeper than 2". There are very few 6.5's that are that shallow, but the best ones I've found so far are the Kenwood DualMags, model #KFC-XR600. They are 6 1/2" and have a very shallow mounting depth, no mods are necessary for them to fit the front doors at all. Just plug and play. The sweet thing about these speakers besides the shallow depth is the fact that you can power the tweets from a separate amp from the woofer and the tweet isn't riding on the same axis as the woofer so you get more excursion from the woofer and less distortion. Im on my second set, I love em. The first set was in my 4th gen civic that got stolen and raped, I just got some for my 5th Gen Accord.
Okay I should stated that a different way. Okay, any speaker worth having in my view you need to cut the rain gaurd. If you like the Kenwood Daul-Mags more power to ya, but they aren't my cup of tea. If you're waiting a simple drop in I like and own the JL TR600s. For retail about 120 bucks they are one the best sounding drop-in replacement speakers out there.
I tired to get some IDQ62's in my doors in my civic...the magnet wouldn't fit through the door in the hole...the depth was fine...but the acutal magnet didn't fit....sheesh
Really? I had a pari of ID6's in the door of my old CRX. If you really want to get them there I think that would fit. Did you try taking the door panel off and then mounting them? I had to make a custom speaker mounting ring out of MDF to get them in there. But hey they fit and sounded great, some Dnyamat would have helped a little bit.
