I think I am set on that now. Take out the bricks, rid of all the plants, plant and mulch that area...and yes, landscape cloth is a must. Then on the side, keep that area raised, but replace the brick with a nicer stone...put a couple small trees on there.

besides the obvious hiring of someone.
Rent a stump grinder.
Around here they are about $100 a day plus deposit.
