All you really need is the dehydrator. The Ronco ran me $40 at Target, but there are much better ones out there. I only got the slicer because I make a lot of it so it is a lot easier on my hands and faster too. This food slicer was $100.

Good thought, I didn't think of that. However, when I make a batch of spicy I like to constantly mix it up with my hands to make sure the red pepper flake is on all the pieces of jerky and if it was all in an airtight bag, I think that would be difficult to do.
