here is one that was posted on TH not so long ago. Not sure if their methods were all too great or whether HP laptops were reported more often because their users were less likely to fix failures themselves (which would explain ASUS winning out) but I also don't think that explains a 50%+ hike over other manufacturers.
it can easily explained by the fact that their market share grew and grew and grew. when it gets that big the least common denominator factor comes into play. the more you sell the more users you will have that are less capable of resolving issues.
that's not to say some HP laptops are crap. you get what you pay for and every computer manufacturer has crap laptops. which is why I tend to stay away from the bottom rung stuff from all manufacturers.
