You need to seal the air gap between the intercooler and the fan or it's not going to go through the intercooler at all. This is the same reason they usually suck air through radiators instead of trying to push it through with a fan. Maybe you could make an air ram for it instead if you are going to keep it. I *was* going to mount the fan on the intercooler itself because it fits on the core like it was made for it. However, I didn't think that was good for it. You say that it is. I don't doubt you, but can you tell me why?
