At the underlieing base of it all there are assholes who don't drive effecient vehicles or for that matter are likely to ever drive at all if not totally necessary.

That's where the double standard comes in. Any politician that signs a bill saying we should accelerate the CAFE standards and encourage people trade in their gas guzzler for something smarter, then turns around and rides in a limo everywhere they go or flies on a jet that makes a thousand times more pollution than any car does.... becomes the epitome of a double standard in my mind.
