Different with restaurants, times posted should reflect time of service --- you can't estimate the time what if its a fast food restaurant or like a prime rib place? You can only go off of whats posted on the door. With cars the person tells you what can be done when you show up.

you walk in to a restaraunt and order a salad you know it's going to be much quicker than ordering a well done steak. you know if you walk in and sit down at 10 to close you will be there after close.
it doesnt matter though, majority of the time you are going to walk into a restaurant and it's going to be a 30 minute meal minimum ... if you walk in at 9:50 and they close at ten you KNOW you will be keeping them later and if you dont realize it you are a dense asshole plain and simple.
