The "recall" is actually just a firmware update, and I think you can download it if you still have the machine around. It wasn't a hardware problem at all. The firmware they shipped with didn't support the processor temp sensor/fan switch. That was new tech then.
The external drive will encode slow as dirt since it will be reading/writing out of the same I/O at slower-than-SATA speeds... but it's a good test anyway...

I gave that machine to my friend who didn't have a computer. He got my G4 400 which was upgraded to 1ghz processor, then I gave him the mirrored doors machine. Next time I go over there I'm gonna check on that firmware update. I could have sworn that apple did a recall on the power supply.
FI get hooked up with machines from work, so I pay it forward by giving machines way to friends that either have no Mac, or a dead slow one.
