really depends on how big and old they are. my father-in-law has a ton of plumerias, and he never brings them in the house (and they live in carlsbad where it's a bit colder than here).

i haven't trimmed it at all, but i haven't noticed many dead branches. i am watering it, though we've had a lot of rain recently so i haven't in maybe 2 weeks. and i have no idea how the soil is. i do plan on testing it.
