we kind of like the bookshelf, but may end up removing it. it's kind of built into the mantle (it's all one piece on top), so we'd have to redo that too. and the carpet only goes up to the bookshelf, so we'd have to lay some down where it was.
the plan for the tv is probably what you were saying. have a link to the mount you used?

this old house, although it's more for houses older than mine (but i has helped since i have plaster walls like alot of old houses).

you should replace it with something taller or shorter, but not the same height as the fireplace.
Also, fyi, i purchased the faux-wood plantation shutter style blinds online for a LOT less than local prices. Installtion is straight forward. Its a great alternative to curtains if you're looking for window treatments in the bedrooms
