Actually the laser RS turbo was the best bang-for-the-buck weekend racer made by the DSM clan because it was the lightest, sunroof-free, least-laden in powered options car without ABS. The AWD Laser RS Turdo is now really flippin' hard to find.
The engine in my colt came from a '90 Laser. It was a PA car. I sent the chassis off for a good crushing. RIP you Plymouth rust bucket.
The only reason I recommended that car is because it can be had for under $1000 with an engine that makes 3x the whp & torque of a civic hatch, a cast-iron block that never needs sleeves, and then there's $6k left in the budget for mods. Totally do-able. 'course it's heavier, but with AWD, a lot less has to be done to make it stick. IMO after having both, they're both just as easy to work on, the engines just spin in opposite directions (hondas spin backwards :db: )
