New formats take years to take hold in the marketplace, unless the change is forced by the demise of the older format...i.e. video games. Blu ray just took hold as the new format, players are coming down as well as hdtv's, new releases are having large % of blu ray sales i.e. iron man and dark knight. The key to this formats success is in new release and high popularity films i.e. scarface, finding nemo, god father, lord of the rings...etc. in order to get people to start buying movies. People aren't going to immediately replace their old dvd collection with blu ray, but they will start a new collection with new releases and a couple favorites. It will probably take 5 years minimum to replace dvd as the standard.
