Couldn't he have yelled "put your hands up" or something to that effect? I think the situation of man vs. gun could have been better handled. Not saying he was wrong, but I think things could have ended with no one getting shot.
I'm pretty sure "put your hands up" sounds like "can you shoot me first" to a robber.
Kinda like when the cops yell "freeze!!" sounds like "Run!" to them.
