All the states are different. Some require the ammo to be separate from the gun...so you'd have to carry a mag in your pocket.
The only laws I've seen where ammo has to be separate is in storage or in vehicles in some states. I've done alot of reading and I've
never seen any law about having to have a weapon that's on your person unloaded.
Also, about your "open carry is legal, permits for concealed" blah blah, It varies from state to state. Some states do have "carry" permits which are required for open and concealed carry.
