If you set your ignition timing without a timing light/gun, you might as well adjust your valves without feeler guages. The proper tools don't cost that much. If you're not going to use them, you're better off leaving it alone. If you're really that cheap or lack the funds to buy a timing light, borrow one. Or buy one and return it the next day.
