Just depends on if you bother to look into the whole story or just accept things at face value.
Yeah it's pretty inaccurate, as your scales of measurement differ.
You're counting overall miles driven on both fuel sources but only counting one source of consumption (diesel).
So combine the number of total gallons consumed (both diesel & alt. fuel) and you'll have a more accurate figure.
