It's been proven that money doesn't buy titles. The 03 Marlins, 05 White Sox, and 06 Cardinals had fairly small payrolls, most of which a fraction of what the Yankees pay out.

Again though, A-Rod isn't forcing the Yankees pay for his services. Because of the guys ability to draw an audience, put up HUGE numbers, and be foretasted as the "one to break Bonds" ... he's getting paid.

To the Yankees, this is all good money spent. It's all business ...
1. They need A-Rod for their YES Network.
2. The new Yankee Stadium will have 51,800 seats, (6,000 less than the current one) but will feature lots more luxury boxes and premium views.
3. Steinbrenner wants to win more than anything else.
