The Type R comes 1" lower the other Integras, so yes, you would need a lower drop if you want your car to look lowered- if you used springs not designed for the Type R specifically.

For example, a set of Eibach Sportline springs will lower a Type R only 0.7", and all other Integras 1.7".

However H&R makes a spring specifically for the Type R which will lower it 1.5F and 1.3R.
