If you put it on the stud you will get antiseize on your wheel. I put a dab on the inside of the lug before installing. Ever since 2002 when I started doing it I've never stripped or had problems with my lugs/studs. Before that I must have stripped or seized a lug nut/stud about 3-4 times a year.
