Nobody mentioned how long a country had to be a superpower, only that a country is or was a superpower at one point or another.
With the way things are the middle east could likely stay a power as a group for the better part of the next 100 years if they were to drop their differences and band together as a group.
Amazing how you can have 75 gangs in a city all fighting for control and all it takes is a couple of smart people to put differences aside, align the groups as a force and they all own the city instantly...now do this on a national scale and see what happens.
all true, but completely moot since we all know this will never happen. not to mention the original topic wasnt wether a geographic region could band together but the ludicracy of Irans statement.
the middle east will never nor could never band together as one unified front, there are too many different lines of thought in such a small region. these countries are full of people who believe in their religious beliefs too strongly and view all others as wrong or evil. they have been fighting for thousands of years, theres no chance of them changing that in any time period for them to have any effect on the world
