Not very well really since we would be forced to use our "100 year reserves" when the country in question has something like a 400+ year reserve once they cut out the largest purchaser of oil.
I don't think you quite understand how reliant we are on oil as a nation...I mean I am sure you know it but I don't think the extent of dependency is something you really grasp. Something of this nature would stand the chance to financially destroy this country especially at this point and time in history. As it stands the US is hurting and it would only take a few more crippling blows to drop the country to it's knees in a manner of speaking.

but that time of dependency is going to end, that time when they have what everyone needs is going to end. then what? then the middle east will have about as much importance as places like chile uraguay, none.
i understand perfectly how reliant this nation is on oil. im just pointing out that your line of though is only a temporary one, it wont continue forever and if these countries in the middle east truly wish to be a super power and remain one they need to find alternatives to their income and source of world power.
