If the alarm/key system COMES with its own fob for use with the starter button, then yeah that's how it works, but if it's for anything else then no. You have to be in range of the button (like a foot or so) and you have to have the right code, but not only is every keyfob's code different, the car sends a random code back to the keyfob to stash in memory, so that only it can come back and start the car again.
