The majority of people who get HIV don't tell their family or friends until several years after the diagnosis, and in many cases, they never share their positive status with others. Not to mention that roughly 250,000 people in the US are HIV positive and don't even know it. Just because you don't know of anyone with HIV doesn't mean you don't know anyone who has HIV.

Good logic, since if they told me they had HIV I'd never talk to them again for fear of contracting it while sharing straws.
