I know this post is old but in case someone else comes across this problem...

I had something similar happen to me with my '05 accord. I had just come off of the highway and it was hot out so the car was quite hot. The car chugged while I was sitting in drive at stop. It felt like I had been rear-ended and the car kept running. The car drove ok for a bit. Then, the next time I started it, the engine light came on and the car wouldn't go past second gear.

Luckily there was a Honda dealership nearby. It turned out it was a solenoid on my transmission. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly what the part was but it took a few days to get in . It's been ok since.
