Default DIY windshield install?

The previous owner of my 97 ex sedan had the rear windshield replaced with the wrong piece of glass. It is too small, leaving gaps between the rubber seal and the metal of the body and I get a swimming pool in my trunk because of it. I've been trying to fill in the gaps with silicone but it just takes too long and I'm thinking about just getting it replaced. My auto glass place gave me an estimate of about $350 to have them replace it, but I can get the right piece of glass from the local salvage yard for $50.
Has anybody here ever replaced their own windshield? Would you recommend or warn against doing it myself? I know I'd need to get the right sealer/glue and a rubber seal for it.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I've been dealing with this for a year and a half and its starting to get on my nerves. THanks.
