Ok let me rephrase then.

Most who attend those schools and end up in command with no actual combat duty or time in rank under their belt get respect only on the field out of necessity from their company.

Now in the rare event (like your buddy) one comes along and issues no job they themselves are not willing to do they gain the full respect of their company.

Too many times these West Point pricks hit formation demanding instant respect from their troops, what they weren't taught was that their troops would just as quickly shoot them in the back as listen to them until they prove they are worthy of being followed into death.

Obviously your buddy is one of the better ones to graduate and has earned true respect from his company.
