having two languages is fine and those countries you pointed out it does work. but your forgetting one thing, and i'll use your precious quebec as an example and you as the direct example. You understand both languages that are seen as the "approved" languages. you can read them, write them, and speak them. granted english is your poorer of the two, but still the point stands you understand and can use both quite proficiently.

the issue at hand about language here is that these people coming in arent taking the time to do that. they are saying fuck it and expecting everyone else to accomodate their language they are bringing in and not the language that they are coming into. they arent showing any interest in conforming to the standards that are in place, and would rather see the standards and the majority for that matter change to suit them. and that is what about the national language that is at discussion here...thats how its being destroyed
Dude, youre generalizing WAY too much. I work with immigrants, illegal and legal, and all of them are not this way. Sure their English isnt the best, and some of them dont even speak it. But they arent walking around demanding everything be put into a language that they understand. I am sure that most people here who live around people from other countries know that you are generalizing...but some hick fuck who might have never seen someone from another country might get the wrong impression.

And those of you guys who are saying things like..."I dont go into another country expecting everyone to accommodate to me"...its just not a fair example. Take a look at the demographics of the United States...or even parts of it; we are made up of people who speak different languages. Its not like a Chinese family moved over here and said..."hey, I need a translator." We are talking about numbers of people that go well into the millions.
