If it were somehow a magical automatic GSR, it wouldn't crank at all with a bad neutral safety switch...just like the clutch switch in a manual.

As for this problem:
Does the car drive oddly at all, feel sluggish, hiccup at all?
How do the plugs look? Fouled? Clean?
Could be fuel pump, main relay, fuel filter, starter on its way out...a lot of things...just gotta start narrowing it down.
