Advice/Opinions needed, Please *smiles*
Good morning, I have a deal in the works which I must either complete or reject on Friday, April 6th.
I have a 1994 Ford Ranger, 4cyl, basic well-running truck.
Someone I work with is offering a trade for a 1991 Prelude which needs a little work. (the actual deal is Truck + $500 for the Prelude)
Things I know about the Prelude-
Salvaged Title, cleared. It was in a front end accident on the passenger side. from a distance it looks pretty good, replaced front bumper, lights actuate and illuminate.
190k miles on the car, engine replaced about 20k ago.
-Needs muffler replacement.
-Needs paint (minor worry, it's just faded and mismatched where the front bumper was replaced and somewhat painted)
-Driver's mirror wiggles annoyingly within it's housing.
-Wheels need to be balanced.
-at 50MPH+ there is a lot of vibration, likely due to wheel balance issues.
-Shifting is pretty smooth, but 75% of the time I feel/hear a slight grind shifting into 5th. Current owner said he hasn't felt it, but he tends to wait a second between pressing the clutch and moving the shifter.
-Hood prop rod is not connected at the body end, I can see where I think it connects to the frame, no idea how to get it through the hole.
-Braking is uniform, no pulls to either side, no shudders.
-set of 18" OZ rims with well treaded sneakers (8 months on the tires).
Before I agree to the deal, Im looking for a ballpark idea of what things will cost should they become an issue, and whether they can be done by myself, or if they require special tooling/procedures... in specific-
-Exhaust/muffler system. (bolt on header-back replacement?)
-Shocks/struts replacement
-Clutch
-Sunroof trim replacement (occasional leak, rubber is wearing bad)
-Wheel bearings (shooting in the dark here, incase the balancing doesnt fix the vibrations)
Any other hints of things to look at would be appreciated, Thanks!
